Once in Santiago de Compostela, and after a few anxious moments when, because of my proverbial dumbness, misplaced my boarding pass, my brother Punch, our beloved Maestro Raúl Gonzalo and I settled in our brand new hostel apartment Casa Felisa, later known as the “HomoFlat” and after calling Juan to tell him that there were already in Compostela, we were all in the Plaza del Obradoiro. There, like so many times, I felt the thrill of seeing my dear comrades, one of the most special encounters, I think it was mutual, was that of Juan and me: they are many things that he and I have lived, many emails, many projects, and, above all, a great desire to meet again in person was ours, an embrace of the most touching and exciting.

But that does not detract at all the excitement I felt when I reconnect with my dear Dani Vignemale, Piscis, Ecocharlie and meet for the first time in person, after 14 years, Laura, an institution in the world of Fairlight. Also very special was my first encounter with my friend Divo (and woman), a guy that I really wanted to know.
In this way, we went for luncht to a restaurant recommended by Laura, the Orexa, fantastic place where we eated so much by a ridiculous amount. That it the waitress was a lot of ifs and almost throw us by the grace of velvety voice modulated of Complexy, but how we laughed at the so-called “scandalous table.”
After lunch, we headed to a site, also recommended by Laura, to take some coffee. It is the first time I see someone asked about being beaten by a simple cofee and is the first time that a site will charge you for the ice. Unbelievable but absolutely true. After this, we went tto the hostal, to take a shower and change and once made our ablutions, we went Raul, Punch and I do a little sightseeing in Santiago (beautiful city) then, of course, we were drinking a few ciders Trash in a tavern and then became our fetish tavern where we had a hell of discovering pipe Raul pedagogical skills, proving that it can trigger a spiral of violence if it refers to thickness of the arms of the Master, or discovering the habits of the typical Bulgarian (who does not know the typical Bulgarian) …

After that, we headed to the site of the dinner, where I met again with great joy for me, with my beloved Paquillo, the Escartín of Carcaixent and excellent mimic Fraga Iribarne, aswell as Pacus and women, as well as with our beloved Bopo. I am also glad to see again Danee73, which had the detail of approaching to greet us. Speaking of details, which had tremendous one of Divo who gave us a copy of Direct Matin newspaper where, on the cover, featuring the poster from the 2010 tour, thank you very much, buddy. Francis Rimbert was also there, who, somehow, and knowing that my friend Juan was there, I was not surprised to see him there, sharing dinner with us.

At dinner, in fact, I came a little low, except a few, he did not know anybody, I felt like a wedding, and he was pretty tired from the trip, plus Carmen and Palopío had suffered a delayed flight and would not arrive in time for dinner, so expect it to go with them to another site in the Plaza del Toural (venue which hosted the Rendez 2003), where her dinner was enlivened by a beard guy making music with a role.

As we did not really want to drink, we went to the Plaza del Obradoiro, where we were with Juan watching that Jarre was still on stage at about three in the morning. When he retired to his quarters, Juan and I asked Jarre that it took a picture with which we were there, so Fiona, his manager, made us taht photo and we went to sleep.

The next day at breakfast, we took a joy to see our beloved comradres Saqman and Berni; to lunch we went back to the Orexa site.
Again, back to the hotel to put on the uniform of the concert, take a shower and show our cute “HomoFlat” to our dear friend Le Soleil, with whom we met again that day for our joy. After we went to Plaza del Obradoiro to taking place for the concert. There we meet with comradres like Rendez Jesus (what joy to see him), Madjares and Los Sauces. But one of my most special reunion was with my beloved Alomejo2, who gave me great joy to see again. We stayed at the site where they were, that was a fucking good place to see the concert, and receive visits from Zzero and Patri, Pacotrón, Synthetic Man, I do not know if I leave it to someone else, but, of course, I was glad see them, also I was thrilled to meet in person to David, a fantastic guy thatwas really excited to finally see Jarre live.

So there we were holding up until he started the concert, spent time enlivened by the occasional reherarsals and a risky departure to piss in where I stepped everybody in my way to the WC. The Plaza was beginning to be full of people and to my surprise, there came my brother Juan to give me a backstage pass! The guy had returned to achieve and had the great kindness to get a pass for me too, a tremendous detail on the other hand, because without him and his work we would have not pass or do not have anything. He said that with the accreditation, where we could go everywhere except the main stage, so we talked to met after the concert to make use of these passes, I was excited to hang one of those badges around my neck, jejejee .

Then the concert itself started and, Mama, famously Crazy Bloke of Wembley was nothing compared to. I can assure you that, in the company of Punch and Raul, I literally let the voice and feet bouncing on each song. I jumped in all songs, even in Souvenir of China, something completely inexplicable, shouting, singing, jumping, but we came down in some songs, as were Oxygene 5, Variation 3 Adagio, which destroyed the great atmosphere had formed. But then we came up with great tracks as Rendez Vous 4, Rendez Vous 2, Chronologie 6 (believed to die when it started), Chronologie 2, etc … I loved the concert, totally spectacular, fearsome, and a memorable show…

Of course, the framework was spectacular, and I do not exaggerate when I say that the concert of Santiago is among the most impressive Jarre has done in his life, and saving the logical distance, reminded me Oxygen in Moscow, with difference, in my opinion, that the framework of Compostela was much more impressive than the one of Moscow.

After the concert, and with the adrenaline still in my veins, I called Juan and told me to go to the Parador, which was the “headquarters” of Jarre and his tam to go to see them … There we planted with our holy balls, Juan and I, accompanied by Heide, Rimbert’s friend, to go to have a talk with Rimber himself, Claude Samard and Jerome Guguen in his dressing room.

There I was, with accreditation hanging by the neck, ready to join the suite of musicians of JM Jarre… And there we went to chat with them while they changed their clothes. I guess they were wondering who in the hell were the guy that was there in the room but they did not give more importance … With them, we were seeing the end of the televising of the concert. We ask a few autographs and headed for the very suite of Jarre. What we lived was completely surreal, really.

I was at a huge suite with about 10 or 12 people who most of them had seen many times in videos of Jarre: there were Christine Ferreira, the photographer of the concerts, Pierre Garnier, personal assistant Jarre , Fiona, Alain Corrieaux (the sound guy), the mother of Fiona, and some more that I did not know of anything … And there was Jean Michel Jarre himself with the same costumes from the concert (a glitter shirt) sitting on a sofa, eating biscuits and chatting… They began to get Iberian ham, cheese and plenty of drinks of all kinds … What struck me most is that with the accreditation that we took you could do there in the suite what you get out of the balls, eat cookies, take ham and drink champagne, and even drink a vodka with lemon. I was a little embarrassed, really, but my brother Juan was very relaxed. Rimbert were talking to us (Juan tried to convince him to go on vacation to Saint Tropez) a good time with this coolest guy, really, for us and we took pictures with him, Samard (whit an hilarious picture with ham as protagonist) and Gueguen.

As I said Jarre were talking and talking and there were some surreal situations as he brought his laptop and made us all a Youtube video where he left a Brazilian gynecologist doing a performance of Oxygene 4 by “fart” with his hands. Jarre was literally almost diying by laughing, so that eventually began to clapat the end of the performance. It was also hilarious when Jarre went to change to get the tracksuit “Jarre Enterprise” and moved there, without closing the door or anything, as his musicians did before.

Following this, Juan and I were talking one time with Jarre face literally lit up when we said we were the admins of Fairlight Jarre and the Spanish translators of the official JMJ website. The guy was really happy (a genuine happiness) and do not know the times we were thanked for our work, he said that the future was going to work much more with our website (maybe true) and that our work was important for him. Even in a moment of exaltation of friendship, when we parted from him, to go shake his hand, Jarre embrace us with a bear hug back to thank us again about our work.

We stayed in this suite a couple of hours at least and then Jarre went down to sign a few autographs for fans who were waiting, and he left the site by car … It was nearly 3 am.

After that Raul, Punch, Zzero and I we went to have some drink.
And finally today, we said goodbye to Santiago and our beloved friend Raul, who started in his drive to Salamanca. At the airport we met with Jarre and his team, who were waiting to catch a plane to Paris, where, after saying goodbye to Paquillo, he caught the plane to Valencia, Palopío, Carmen, Punch, and I Alomejo embarked on the plane to Madrid.

From here to say that we missed guys like Dreaming, Ever, Oxy, Molossus, Ghost or Pepote that for some cause or other, could not come.

And finally a very special memory for my brother Punch and Raúl; with them I’ve been truly happy for two days. We laughed as Cossacks. Thank you, my dear comrades.
And, of course, another very special memory for my friend, my Partner in Crime and my brother, Mr. D. Juan Gomis; he has managed, once again, that our most crazy dreams have come true. We are great, my friend.

And, of course, to thank Jean Michel Jarre and his team, especially Francis Rimbert, Claude Samard and Jerome Guguen, by the unforgettable concert and wthe kind treatment bestowed on us in the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos .
I think I am right when I say that all who had the great fortune of going to that concert will never forget this date: July 31, 2010.

- The estimated starting time is 22.30 but the JMJ has already indicated that he has the last word about it, to ensure that the lighting situation is appropriate. Some delay would be possible because it is getting dark so early, so do not be surprising to see the start of the concert from 23.00h.

- The capacity of the venue is 8,000 people.

- Plaza de la Quintana, just behind the Cathedral of Santiago, have installed a giant screen for the event to follow it also in that place. This square fit 5,000 people. The screen is 7 × 13 m.

- The TVG / Galicia TV will broadcast the event. In principle, it is a false direct from 23.30.

- The project on Saturday has been designed by JMJ and his team. Already made a visit to Santiago for weeks now, and the team is working since Thursday morning to prepare everything.

- The stage will be placed in the same cathedral, particularly in the upper reaches of the entrance stairs of the main facade. It is not usual for artists to play there, because the scenarios are often placed in other areas of the square.

- The public controls to access into Plaza del Obradoiro will begin officially at 20.30.

- The platform on which the stage will be built occupy about 100 square meters.

- 500.000 W will be used for the concert lighting.

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, June 30 (Europa Press)

The musician and composer Jean Michel Jarre is going to combine “tradition and high technology” and will stage an “authentic architecture of light” in the show by 31 July in Plaza del Obradoiro, Santiago de Compostela.

This is what the artist said today at a press conference, after visiting the Obradoiro, in which he explained that he will paly his old hits and other new songs in the concert. In this way, he said he hoped to have some new tracks that he will be “composing on the road” in the context of his world tour which includes Santiago as its only stop in Spain.

Jarre said that the action will involve a mix of “past and future” and stressed that “Santiago and Galicia combine this sense of being outside of time, whether you are Catholic or not, the message is universal, what drives so many pilgrims to come to Santiago. ”

Also connected to the Galician capital is the heritage of Unesco, an organization of which he is goodwill ambassadorl, and stressed that its objective “is to protect not only old stones, but to celebrate a sense of identity from the artistic and historic point of view . ” “These stones convey this sense of being outside of time, is something unique in this region of Europe,” he said.

At the same time, asked to integrate architecture and project it “as one of the achievements of mankind”, in addition to holding the environment in the event, which is to him the relationship of man with nature and urban settings.

He also noted that it will be a “special concert” because, besides the environment, he will use instruments that are part of the “mythology of electronic music, which are more difficult to play in a live situation. So, stressed that the pieces are played live, what, nuance, “will a real challenge” and that will make “more interesting.”

Photo: Efe

As for the set will feature a combination of video, lights and new type of laser, which will provide an “authentic architecture of light”, which will create a 3-D effect but will not be necessary to use 3-D glasses.

VIDEO

Regarding the video, said to be “very special” because they include animation and images shot with several cameras, one located in his glasses “to have a subjective point of view of everything that happens on stage.”

Finally, he said that the concert meant to imply also an “event in the city” with “significant cooperation” with Spanish technicians and specialists in light and sound.

Thus, he said that he will go to Santiago to establish a “genuine cooperation” with these specialists and to integrate the architecture in the event because “it will be one of the stars” in a performance that will be broadcast on television and recorded in some parts on 3D.

CONNECTION “CITY, MUSIC AND ART”

The Regional Minister of Culture, Roberto Varela, stressed that the appointment of Jean Michel Jarre in the Obradoiro will have a “live performance by one of the best artists in the music scene in the last 35 years.”

The quotation is included in the ‘Path of Music’ on the programming of Xacobeo 2010 and, as highlighted Varela, the event, free entry, will become “a magnificent spectacle which fully integrate music with the latest technology in sound, lights and visual effects “.

After noting the success of the artist in his last concert in Santiago in 1993 at Monte do Gozo, location initially intended for the appointment of 31 July but that was changed by the type of event wanted to offer by the artist, Varela noted that seeks to achieve “a unique connection between city, music and art” in Obradoiro.

The French producer Francis Dreyfus died late yesterday. Dreyfus was an important figure for Jean Michel Jarre as he was the first who trusted in his works and gave it a commercial outlet. They met in 1972 through Dreyfus’s wife, Helene, and under the seal of his company would take to light Jarre’s early works such as Les Granges Brulees or Deserted Palace, in addition to various singles and collaborations with various French artists.

The highlight of the collaboration come in 1976/1977, at which time Oxygene was released first in France and then in the rest of the world, becoming a bestseller.

The artistic relationship between Jarre and Dreyfus was broken in 2002 for reasons not too clear; as a curiosity, Jarre, after several years of fightings, recalled, in the acknowledgments when he earned a MOJO award a few days ago, Francis Dreyfus as his true discoverer.

Rest in peace, Francis Dreyfus.

Till 2004 Claude Samard is a key person on every Jean Michel Jarre project. Claude kindly gave this interesting interview to Fairlight Jarre.

- For those who don’t know who are you, who is Claude Samard??

I m a lucky guy who s making a living playing music

- How were your first steps in music??

Rock guitar (like JM

- How JMJ contacted with you??

Through Alain Bilowus who produced his big shows from 2004

- How were the first meeting with JMJ himself?

In a restaurant we re both from Lyon , capital of gastronomy so it was a good start

- Did you know JMJ’s music before the begin of your collaboration??

Of course, i even attended the show at La Defense and at the Eiffel Tower as a spectator

- Have you got any JMJ favourite song or album??

Zoolook was how i stated my sampling career

- You are musical director in most JMJ concerts, but what is the exact role of a musical director??

For each project JM has a clear vision of what he wants in terms of musical arrangements, collaborations with guests, etc, but he needs somebody to help all his wishes come a reality. It s very time consuming and you must consider the fact that it s the same for video, lasers, fireworks when there are some, lights, so he needs a musical director to help him along the way for the music part of the project . At each step i show him my work to make sure i m on the good direction, like casting local guests in BJ, Gdansk, Merzouga ….. So i ve to listen to him well , having a lot of pre prod meetings, good briefings so that i get the clearest idea of what he wants.

- The arranges of existing Jarre tracks for the Gdansk concert are really amazing, like the Industrial Overture one… Did you arranged this track for the concert or was Jean Michel Jarre himself who arranged the track??

I did some programming, and then he decides what to keep, and adds his own. It s a collaboration, but he can t do everything from scratch in music , video , lasers, lights. No time. That s why for each field he has a special collaborator who builds with him step by step after his primal recommendations. Then it s a back and forth exchange. JM has his own conception of music so whoever he works with his music has the Jarre sound. All his MD s had different musical backgrounds and musical personalities, but we re all here to follow the direction he indicates , then we keep the project moving forward to save his time and energy while he works on his side.

- And the same question, but about the Metamorphoses tracks in the Water for Life concert: The arranged versions belongs to you??

He gives the directions , some starting ideas , some demos, then i push this forward, shows the results before going too far, then at some point we check all the ideas we got and he makes the final decision , like a film director he s doing the final edit because then he s got enough interesting material to decide what to keep. Plus it s good to collaborate , especially when you have a long career, it helps for motivation , new influences…

- About the track Tian’anmen, Jarre said in the audiocomentary of the DVD that you and JMJ worked together in the creation of the track in your hotel room. Please, tell us a bit about this track.

I think we may have had some basic ideas before getting to Beijing but most of the work was done at the hotel with my Mac laptop, ProTools LE, a Digi 002 interface , I even bought the cymbals we used the morning of the concert in a local music store i have these cymbals at my studio now !

- Did you have any special bad memories or good memories in your concerts with Jarre??

No bad memories. A lot of good ones , the most important being the Beijing concert, the discovery of China and the discovery of what is a Jarre s concert, viewed from the inside.

- About Téo & Téa, as you know this was a very controversial album that most of the fans didn´t like at all. What do you think about this album?? Were you aware of the possible shocks that this album would create in the fan comunity were you were making the album??

Yes, it was an experience, JM explained a lot about that. I think it was a necessary step, it s no hasard that the next one was come back to analog and to his trademark Oxygene.

- Towards the end of 2006, JMJ was talking about a new album called “Saint Exupery” to be realeased in the first part of 2007, but then came out Téo & Téa… Was Téo & Téa “Saint Exupery” or is this last title an abandoned project??

I think so

- As you know, JMJ used the Roland MC808 extensively in the Téo & Téa album, and it was very shocking for most fans that JMJ, a real creator of sounds, used drum patterns of that drum machine almost without any modification… What do you think about this?? What really happened??

JM himself contributed a lot to develop products with Roland , plus on Teo & Tea he worked with Tim , a dutch musician/DJ who developped also sounds for Roland, so it s not so strange some patterns were used on a cd. I even met people from Roland Japan at JM s studio which proves they were working together at the time.

- About your concerts in Spain with the Oxygene In Concert Tour, have you got special memories of this concerts??

Yes , great success, it was a moment when JM started to change his attitude on stage, he did more entertaining , running, moving etc…Maybe its thanx to the spanish audience, but that s where he changed his attitude during that tour. I even remember having said to him one night ” that s called a triumph” !

- Are you working in the new JMJ album?? If so, what is the direction of this work, a return to origins or another Téo & Téa?

Surely not a new Teo & Tea Yes JM worked a lot on this new project , Francis, Dom and me also participated, a lot of good stuff !

- Are you going to visit more continents next yea with the actual JMJ tour?? USA, South America?? And Spain??

Hope so !!! i know it s a wish of JM…but the world is changing these days, (even volcanos) but i should say that yes we should tour in other continents in 2011

- What kind of music inspires you to make your own themes?

any music with soul, emotion , whatever instruments it s played with , a voice , an old moog or a guitar

- Apart of JMJ, have you collaborated with other artists??

Of course, if not JM wouldn t have trusted me It ranges from all the major french artists to Rita Marley (the “queen of reggae), Supertramp ’s Roger Hodgson , Midnight Oil, Zucchero, lots of world music artist for Mongolia, Africa…. I also composed for Video Games (Rayman, Far Cry, Pod2) and for Movies.

- And what kind of music are you making actually??

I released a new CD called “Horizons” and i finished a movie soundtrack “Christopher Roth” , directed by Max Sender. I work on a new personal project which will blend electro and acoustic instruments.

- Please, talk us about your new CD Horizons. Are you going to promote this album in Spain??

I m working on a new distribution now. It s available on iTunes, Amazon but i m checking out how i could have the Cd distributed in stores as well in Spain and in all the major countries concerned by the physical sales of cd’s. “Horizons” is far from what i do with JM even if it s mostly instrumental too, but it s also a side of what i like. Plus it was a way to collaborate with great musicians and singers from different countries and styles from Tibet to Africa . My next project will be called “Electro Lift” so it speaks for itself and i ll use a lot of instruments i play with JM.

- Thanks again and best regards from Spain!!

Thanks to you , hoping to see you soon in Spain. I have to practice my spanish a bit !!!!!
