Monaco, 01/07/11

H.R.H Prince Albert II of Monaco and his fiancée Ms Charlène Wittstock, in celebration of their wedding, will offer a concert by Jean Michel Jarre. On Friday 1st of July 2011 at 10pm, the Principality of Monaco will pulsate with Jarre’s electronic music.

Hercules Port, entirely transformed into a one-night stage, will showcase Jean Michel Jarre’s concert-event, a special creation for Monaco, in this historic context.

Monaco will be the casket for a stunning evening. Jarre’s futuristic concert marries lighting and laser choreography, HD videos and pyrotechnics, the visual score of his universal music, performed from the stage centred in the Port.

A concert in the city, or a city-in-concert, this civic event, open to all, will be broadcast throughout the Principality, as well internationally.

“It is a great honour to have been chosen by Prince Albert of Monaco and his future wife for such an event. It is also a real pleasure to be able to perform in the exceptional site of Hercules Port” states Jean Michel Jarre.

Chronicle of a Memorable Evening

Once in Santiago de Compostela, and after a few anxious moments when, because of my proverbial dumbness, misplaced my boarding pass, my brother Punch, our beloved Maestro Raúl Gonzalo and I settled in our brand new hostel apartment Casa Felisa, later known as the “HomoFlat” and after calling Juan to tell him that there were already in Compostela, we were all in the Plaza del Obradoiro. There, like so many times, I felt the thrill of seeing my dear comrades, one of the most special encounters, I think it was mutual, was that of Juan and me: they are many things that he and I have lived, many emails, many projects, and, above all, a great desire to meet again in person was ours, an embrace of the most touching and exciting.

– The estimated starting time is 22.30 but the JMJ has already indicated that he has the last word about it, to ensure that the lighting situation is appropriate. Some delay would be possible because it is getting dark so early, so do not be surprising to see the start of the concert from 23.00h.

– The capacity of the venue  is 8,000 people.

Plaza de la Quintana, just behind the Cathedral of Santiago, have installed a giant screen for the event to follow it also in that place. This square fit 5,000 people. The screen is 7 × 13 m.

– The TVG / Galicia TV will broadcast the event. In principle, it is a false direct from 23.30.

– The project on Saturday has been designed by JMJ and his team. Already made a visit to Santiago for weeks now, and the team is working since Thursday morning to prepare everything.

– The stage will be placed in the same cathedral, particularly in the upper reaches of the entrance stairs of the main facade. It is not usual for artists to play there, because the scenarios are often placed in other areas of the square.

– The public controls to access into Plaza del Obradoiro will begin officially at 20.30.

– The platform on which the stage will be built occupy about 100 square meters.

–  500.000 W will be used for the concert lighting.

Jean Michel Jarre will combine “tradition and high technology” and an “architecture of light” in the Obradoiro

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA,  June  30 (Europa Press)

The musician and composer Jean Michel Jarre is going to combine “tradition and high technology” and will stage an “authentic architecture of light” in the show by 31 July in  Plaza del  Obradoiro, Santiago de Compostela.

This is what the artist said  today at a press conference, after visiting the Obradoiro, in which he explained that he will paly his old hits and other new songs in the concert. In this way, he said he hoped to have some new tracks that he will be “composing on the road” in the context of his world tour which includes Santiago as its only stop  in Spain.

Jarre said that the action will involve a mix of “past and future” and stressed that “Santiago and Galicia combine this sense of being outside of time, whether you are Catholic or not, the message is universal, what drives so many pilgrims to come to Santiago. ”

Also connected to the Galician capital is the heritage of Unesco, an organization of which he is goodwill ambassadorl, and stressed that its objective “is to protect not only old stones, but to celebrate a sense of identity from the artistic and historic point of view . ” “These stones convey this sense of being outside of time, is something unique in this region of Europe,” he said.

At the same time, asked to integrate architecture and project  it “as one of the achievements of mankind”, in addition to holding the environment in the event, which is to him the relationship of man with nature and urban settings.

He also noted that it will be a “special concert” because, besides the environment, he will use instruments that are part of the “mythology of electronic music, which  are more difficult to play in a live situation. So, stressed that the pieces are played live, what, nuance, “will a real challenge” and that will make “more interesting.”

As for the set will feature a combination of video, lights and new type of laser, which will provide an “authentic architecture of light”, which will create a 3-D effect but will not be necessary to use 3-D glasses.

VIDEO

Regarding the video, said to be “very special” because they include animation and images shot with several cameras, one located in his glasses “to have a subjective point of view of everything that happens on stage.”

Finally, he said that the concert meant to imply also an “event in the city” with “significant cooperation” with Spanish technicians and specialists in light and sound.

Thus, he said that he will go to Santiago to establish a “genuine cooperation” with these specialists and to integrate the architecture in the event because “it will be one of the stars” in a performance that will be broadcast on television and recorded in some parts on 3D.

CONNECTION “CITY, MUSIC AND ART”

The Regional Minister of Culture, Roberto Varela, stressed that the appointment of Jean Michel Jarre in the Obradoiro will have a “live performance by one of the best artists in the music scene in the last 35 years.”

The quotation is included in the ‘Path of Music’ on the programming of Xacobeo 2010 and, as highlighted Varela, the event, free entry, will become “a magnificent spectacle which fully integrate music with the latest technology in sound, lights and visual effects “.

After noting the success of the artist in his last concert in Santiago in 1993  at Monte do Gozo, location initially intended for the appointment of 31 July but that was changed by the type of event  wanted to offer by the artist, Varela noted that seeks to achieve “a unique connection between city, music and art” in Obradoiro.
