Concert in Canary Islands? (Updated 10/12/2008)

Like we told you some time ago, our aim in Fairlight Jarre was to establish a regular contact with the organization of the Canary Islands concert project that, as you kow, is intended to be staged in 2009. Heading the organization is Dr. Garik Israelian who, again with his kindness, has attended Fairlight Jarre  once more telling us the very last news about de Canary Islands concert project; so, Dr. Israelian told us that “sadly we still have not information about the funding for the concert. I have a meeting with JMJ three weeks ago in Moscow and we talked a lot about the project in Canary Islands. For him this is the project of his life (and, of course, for me and for Brian May too). We are very very excited about this project. We’ve got plans and ideas that will make this project thousand times bigger than the concerts at the Pyramids, Houston or Moscow… I already said to you this, but this concert will be the biggest ever staged in the history of this planet. I have reunited all the scientific community around this project and we are to record the concert in HD (from an international station, making then a direct broadcast from space using different devices). We are fighting with the limits of our imagination and this is what is so exciting for us.

Sadly, the politicians on Canary Islands said to us that there is a crisis and that they have not enough money (although this concert’s budget will be two times lower than the concerts in the Pyramids or in Moscow in 1997, for instance). Let me please say again that this event will be an historical one. Steven Spielberg and James Cameron are intending to be there too. For the first time, Astronomy and music will have a real union via this project in which I have been working for seven years. And now, a “crisis”… But, what is a “crisis”? I think that they are creating a lot of hysteria about this issue, but this “crisis” doesn’t affect to soccer or comunications… We have to look for other solutions if the politicians do not endorse the project”.

So here you are the last news about this project. Like ever, we are going to keep you updated with the latest news about this project as soon as we have any information. Thankyou very much, Dr. Garik Israelian, for your kindness.

First Dates “IN-DOORS” World Tour (Updated 17/02/2009)

Some days ago, we talked about the project of a new Jean Michel Jarre Tour in 2009. Well, now it seems this project became a reality as we know the first dates of this project named “World Arena Tour”:

Aero Productions have confirmed that this will be a “greatest hits” tour but it may include some unreleased pieces. The intention of  Jean Michel Jarre is to tour during April, May and June 2009, so, of course, we will keep you updated with all news and new dates of this tour. We are discussing about this new project in our Forum.

New Tour in 2009?

Probably Fairlight Jarre was, in an interview done with Francis Rimbert after the Madrid concert of the “Oxygene in Concert” tour, one of the first sites to know about the plans of Jean Michel Jarre about making a new tour for next year 2009.

In the past Milan and Rome concerts of the current second leg of the “Oxygene in Concert” tour, some members of the team of jarre.it, the italian Jarre fan website, could speak with Rimbert about this forthcoming project for 2009.

As far as we know, the concept for this project is the same that this current tour, so the new 2009 tour is intended to be “indoor”, but with more visual effects. Also it will be a sort of “best of” spanning all the hits of Jean Michel Jarre’s career, but all the arrangements of the songs, including the more simphonic tracks like Rendez Vous 2, will be done in an absolutely electronic way.

Please note that this new 2009 tour is nothing but a project. As you know, and according with experiences in the past, we have to be very cautious with all these projects, but we let you know any new informations about this project when we know something more.

Concert in Canary Islands in 2009?

Like most of you know, Jean Michel Jarre and Brian May are planning to make a concert in Canary Islands to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy, in 2009.

This collaboration started in the backstage of the Jean Michel Jarre concert in London at the Royal Albert Hall, when Dr. Brian May (from Queen) and his friend Dr. Garik Israelian went to greet Jarre after the show. Then May and Israelian, the real organizer of the project, proposed Jarre to collaborate in this concert-project.

Jarre, delighted with this idea, visited many times Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, the place where is intended to stage the event, and keeps permanent contact with both Dr. May and Dr. Israelian.

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Institute of Astrophisics of Canary Islands) published a press note about this event, and some newspapers talked about the concert, so it seems that the negotiations are going in the right way.

In the past few days, Fairlight Jarre were in contact with some members of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, Dr. Israelian among them, and in his own words “we still have to wait until we know if we have enough money to make the concert happen. If the politicians and some enterprises put money in, we can say that this concert will be the greatest ever staged in this planet. It will be one of the strongest events in the history of Spain (and in the history of the world). I’ve been working in this from 2001/2002 and it has been a lot of work. We have to wait for some weeks to see what happen with all this”.

Fairlight Jarre will try to keep you informed about all issues of this eagerly awaited event. We would like to thank to the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and, specially, to Dr. Garik Israelian and D. Luis Martínez Sáez for their attention and kindness.

med-bucharest300.jpg

Focus Agency is saying this about the concert:

“Bucharest. French musician Jean-Michel Jarre, considered a pioneer of electronic, synthpop and New Age music, will have a concert in Bucharest on Nov 10, event organizers, the Phoenix Foundation, said, as quoted by the Romanian .
Organizers said negotiations with the artist’s management took nine months. The concert venue and ticket prices will be announced soon, organizers added.
Jarre’s best known albums include “Oxygène” (1976), “Equinoxe” (1978), “Magnetic Fields/ Les Chants Magnétiques” (1981), “Zoolook” (1984), “Metamorphoses” (2000). His most recent album is “Téo & Téa”, launched in 2007.”

Might this project be confirmed?? Might the concert be not confirmed?? Might this project be another rumour which will not be materialised in the end?? Only time will tell.

Oxygène Tour 2008: Valladolid

DAY 3. VALLADOLID: (Translation by Javier Moragón “Zopa”)

After the long last day, we wake up at 11:00 h. We decided to relax because after the Valladolid concert we will were travelling right to Valencia by car.
Dani and I went destination Pucela at 12:00 h. We stopped to have “breakfast”, yes to have “breakfast” at 13:00 at a gas station in the freeway.
At 14:30 we arrived to Valladolid. After few attempts to find a parking for the car, finally we succeeded it and went to Plaza Mayor, where they were waiting for us very hungry. There were Rubén Olmedo, Pacus 73 and Raúl Gonzalo. Once again, I had the same feelings that I had in the past days. What a great pleasure to meet at last Rubén Olmedo, one of the pioneers, and in charge of organization of the 3 first Rendez!!
We were very hungry, so we went to eat to a restaurant. It was difficult to find a restaurant, because it was a holyday in Valladolid and all the restaurants were full of people, but fortunately, we found a good place, with a great menu and it only cost 12 Euros!!

As soon we started to eat, Carlos Ávila (Aeronautic) called me by phone, a good friend who I met at the concert of Francis Rimbert in Suresnes last June, and told me that he was already at the Auditorium, waiting for the musicians. We changed opinions each other and we decided to see each other there after lunch.

In that moment, I called Francis again and he told me that he were already there and that I could go there when I want, because I’ve got my pass and I could do what I want (but not photos with flash).
So, after lunch, we went right to the Auditorium.

Once there, I met Carlos and a tiny group of fans (I’m sorry, I don’t remember their names), and we were chatting about previous concerts, about what we were waiting for this concert, etc, etc, etc.

Oxygène Tour 2008: Madrid

DAY 2: MADRID: (Translated by Javier Moragón “Zopa”)

The alarm clock rings. It’s 8:00 A.M. It was not a dream… What happened yesterday was for real!! It was so real, that I’ve got a T-shirt. And where is my program?? Oh, yes, Rimbert has it… Would he take it me back signed by Jarre?? Or would be he forgets it somewhere as he is such an absent minded person??

Well, after having a quick shower, and after having a big breakfast with Marta and Karel (we don’t know when we would have lunch), we took the baggage and we went very quickly right to the airport (thanks to Marta, she is a brilliant driver; we arrived there in less than 30 minutes).
Meanwhile we were waiting at the airport I enjoyed a very nice chat with Karel. We talked about personal issues, like family, work, etc, etc… Issues that now and then are nice to talk about to discover the human side of every person.

Karel having fun

After a long wait finally we took the flight to Madrid. Of course, we arrived with more than 30 minutes of delay, but it didn’t mind so much. We had plenty of time ahead.
Karel and I took different ways at the underground, because he was going to his Hotel in Gran Via and I was going to meet with another great friend and great person, Dani (Vignemale in the Forum). After leave my baggage in his home, we left there right to have lunch at Bar Al Norte, beside the Royal Palace… And finally we arrived there at 15:30 or so. There was waiting for us the great David (Piscis 13). It was a big pleasure to meet him in person and to share a great menu with him, Dani and Karel.

Concert posters in the Rambles, outside Liceu

Marta and I arrived in Barcelona midday Monday, and after have lunch, I met with Miguel Ángel (Josmitar for the absent-minded persons) because we had an appointment with ML and Rimbert at the Liceu. So, we went there so nervous!! (Would they allow us to watch the rehearsal??  Would we make an interview with Rimbert??)
We met them at the door (they were smoking, as usual) and after greet them and taking some photos, they said us that they could not credit us for the concert, because of the amazing security measures on site (Jarre defined it in his blog like Fort Knox), but there wouldn’t be any problem for Madrid and Valladolid. So, after the initial displeasure, MAE and I said goodbye until the night.
